The luxury house Balenciaga was founded in 1917. It has always oscillated between innovation, provocation, and very high-end luxury in the world of haute couture.
According to the Kering group, Demna Gvasalia (the Georgian designer) had transformed Balenciaga with a "street / post-irony" aesthetic, oversized silhouettes, diverted objects, and a mix of luxury and "ugly aesthetic" since 2015. In July 2025, we are witnessing a transition as Pierpaolo Piccioli, the new artistic director, will likely bring his couture sensibility and softer elegance, while retaining the strong codes of the house.
