Vintage for Christmas?

Published on 12/5/25

Vintage items are all the rage, and so are clothes: they are exchanged, resold, sometimes at a premium. We remember the cries of our Sex and the City heroines: "It's Vintage!" in response to a compliment on their outfit. Long gone are the days when second-hand was just a stopgap. Today, it's an integral part of our wardrobes and our vocabulary. But what about second-hand shoes? Especially when these shoes are from a luxury brand? Do we wear them? Do we give them as gifts? How do we embrace them?

The title is enticing, but second-hand shoes quickly lose a lot of their value. They are considered intimate objects, making them difficult to resell and seemingly hard to reappropriate. In reality, most luxury shoes are kept for specific occasions and have been worn once or very rarely, so the previous owner's mark is almost non-existent! Or at least easily removable. This leads us to extremely high-quality pairs of shoes, crafted from magnificent Italian leathers, with sublime cuts, at prices sometimes lower than ready-to-wear. So it's a GREAT DEAL! Yes, ladies, it truly is.

Do second-hand luxury shoes make good Christmas gifts?

It's likely we'll have to wait a bit longer before daring to offer second-hand as a gift, as pre-owned presents are still not fully embraced. Or, it will be explained: where it was found, what its story is... and in that case, the gift becomes a mark of special care and attention, coming with a narrative. If second-hand is a passion, we expect the person to have found us a gem... and in that case, why not?! There are quite a few shoe enthusiasts out there... and bargain hunters too... a perfect match, wouldn't you say?
